If you follow European news at all, you have probably heard by now that Margaret Thatcher passed away yesterday. While it has been over 20 years since she led the UK, her influence – good and bad – continues to be felt in today’s Tory party.
The Iron Lady’s death, like her life, has sparked considerable controversy (including the impromptu parties that Tony Blair and Ed Miliband were quick to condone). Some credit Thatcher of reversing Britain’s decline and strengthening British foreign policy, while others are more critical of her legacy, particularly her divisive politics and treatment of other women politicians.
Love her or hate her, Thatcher remains one of the most significant influences on modern British politics.
